About Marcus

Marcus opened a 40-seat LAN café in Austin in 2014 and spent the next six years behind its counter, which is where the gift problem first became obvious: every December the same relatives came in asking what to buy, and every January the same players came back with the wrong-platform version of the right idea.

When the café closed — rent, not gamers — he kept the habit of explaining gear to people who do not play. Gifts for Gamers is that explanation written down: what a category does for a setup, what the platform question unlocks, and which gifts survive contact with an actual player.

He is the person in every group chat who answers "is this a good gift?" with three follow-up questions first. Current obsessions: handhelds, cable management, and the argument that a gift card is not a cop-out.

How Marcus works

  • Platform before product

PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch or handheld — the answer changes half the list. Every guide says which picks are platform-locked and which are safe when you cannot ask.

  • Daily session over novelty

Gear they touch every time they play beats anything with the word "gamer" printed on it. We sort by how close a gift sits to the session, not by how it photographs.

  • No bench, no invented numbers

We explain how to choose. We do not claim to have tested products we have not, and we never publish a price, latency figure or rating we cannot source.
